Power Footy Fever hits Novita

17 April 2009

Novita will today join forces with the Port Adelaide Football Club to help launch the club’s new charity fundraising arm, ‘Power of Dreams’.

‘Power of Dreams’ is a separate not-for-profit entity created by the club to provide financial and moral support to charities, including Novita.

Port Adelaide players David Rodan, Alipate Carlile, Nathan Krakouer and Matthew Broadbent will conduct a customised football clinic for Novita clients and their siblings at Novita’s Regency Park Centre, as part of Novita’s ‘connectABILITY’ program, on Thursday 16 April at 2pm.

ConnectABILITY provides a specialised, supportive and practical ‘linkup’ service between children with disabilities and community sporting groups, helping to break down barriers and open doors to a range of new recreation and sporting possibilities.

Novita’s Marketing Director, Matthew Magarey, said the football clinic provided a fantastic opportunity for children with a disability to enjoy one-on-one experience with AFL players.

“All children love the opportunity to have contact with AFL sporting heroes and Novita children are no different,” he said.

“It’s great to see Port Adelaide taking the lead and making time to help children who often miss out on these sorts of life experiences.”

Port Adelaide Chief Executive Mark Haysman said the ‘Power of Dreams’ will be the banner under which all of the club’s charitable activities are now undertaken.

“The ‘Power of Dreams’ concept will strengthen our profile and role as a significant contributor within the South Australian community, bringing our charity activities together under a unifying banner.

“The purpose of ‘Power of Dreams’ is to help bring the dreams of needy South Australians to reality. Importantly, we want to work in partnership with existing charities to make those dreams come true.

“There are various ways we can do this – through fundraising and through player appearances, the provision of auction items, promotion, and providing access to our club's generous members and supporters, including on match days at AAMI Stadium.”
