Rehabilitation Service
The Novita Children’s Services Rehabilitation Service aims to improve the abilities of Novita clients following major injury, illness or medical procedures which affect their physical function.
The Rehabilitation Service is made up of three specialist programs:
- the Aquired Brain Injury Program, which specialises in rehabilitation after an acquired brain injury (such as a head injury or brain tumour)
- the Acquired Disability Program, which focuses on rehabilitation after a major injury or illness (such as a spinal cord injury)
- the Physical Rehabilitation Program, which supports rehabilitation after medical procedures (such as botox or surgery).
Staff from all three programs work closely with children, families, carers and other members of the community to provide support, advice and solutions to the many challenges they may face. The Rehabilitation Service provides both individual and group-based services and where necessary, liaises with Novita’s Equipment Service to ensure each child receives the most appropriate equipment for their needs.
What does the Rehabilitation Service do?
Rehabilitation is a specialist area of health care, so Novita’s Rehabilitation Service has been established to provide specialised, coordinated services that are time-limited (to meet the need for an ‘intensive burst’), outcome-focused, evidence-based, culturally sensitive and most importantly, based around the needs of children, their families and the wider community.
Who makes up the Rehabilitation Service team?
This multidisciplinary team is made up of family service coordinators, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, speech pathologists, allied health assistants and medical rehabilitation specialists, who work closely with staff from hospitals and other service providers to ensure children and their families receive the best possible support.
Where can I receive support?
Rehabilitation Service staff are based at Novita’s Regency Park Centre, however support is available to Novita clients at a variety of locations – including private homes, local pools, preschools, schools, child care centres, any Novita office and a range of other community locations.
