Diagnosis of Rett Syndrome

Diagnosed with Rett Syndrome if display a certain set of symptoms in their first 3 – 4 years.

  • period of normal development

  • slowed head growth

  • severe impairment of expressive language

  • loss of purposeful hand use, followed by repetitive hand movements eg clapping, tapping, wringing

  • shakiness of the upper body

  • unsteady walk
