Clinics

With so many options for Assistive Technology on the market, it can be very challenging to know what choice is going to be right for you. Novitatech's Assistive Technology Clinics are an opportunity to meet with skilled clinicians to see and try out a range of items to compare the features and work out what is best for you and your individual situation. Novitatech's Assistive Technology clinics are independently run, with equipment from a range of suppliers, so the focus is on you and your needs.

Clinics are typically held throughout the year, particularly in school holidays, at Novita’s Regency Park Centre.

Clinic appointments typically run for 60-90 minutes and can be accessed via NDIS funding, depending on your plan goals. You may also choose to request an assessment report to your funding body if you need to have an item funded following the clinic.

If you are interested in attending a clinic please let your Novita therapist know or contact Novitatech on 1300 668 482.

Bike Clinic

What Happens at a Novita Bike Clinic?

Novitatech’s Bike Clinic is led by a Physiotherapist who has expertise in paediatric disability and knowledge of cycling with support from Technology for Aging and Disability SA (TADSA) technicians who have extensive expertise in bike modification for people with disabilities.

Kids are referred to a Bike Clinic after being unable to ride a standard bike. The Physiotherapist assesses your child’s capacity to be able to ride a bike and includes:

  • Past history of bike use
  • Physical ability- GMFCS level, ability to stand/walk/sit, with or without support
  • Range of movement
  • Motivation
  • Bike skills and safety

Novitatech’s Bike Clinic provides the opportunity for kids to trial a selection of Freedom Wheels bikes and trikes of different sizes. These items have been specifically selected as they have a range of supports and accessories to enable a child with limited mobility and balance skills to have success in riding a bike. Adaptations or specialised bikes can increase a child’s physical stability on a bike and also their confidence in learning to ride a bike.

The physiotherapist determines the most appropriate bike and supports that are required. A bike with the required supports is set up for the child to trial with minimum modifications to establish the most cost effective, and age appropriate option for the child to successfully learn bike riding.

Is there a trial after the clinic?

Following bike clinic a selection of bikes are available for one month trial if it is necessary to establish:

  • If the child likes riding the bike and it is likely to be successful
  • If skills develop during the trial to allow less supports to be recommended
  • If cycling fits into the family life style.

The trial after the clinic is not required for all children, as the information from the clinic session may be sufficient for the physiotherapist to be able to make a recommendation for a modified bike.

Walker clinic

At Novitatech’s walker clinic, you will have the opportunity to work with a highly experienced physiotherapist to find the best matched walker for you and your needs. There may also be the opportunity to hire a walker following the clinic so that you can have a longer trial.

Clinic appointments typically run for 60-90 minutes and can be accessed via NDIS funding, depending on your plan goals. You may also choose to request an assessment report to your funding body if you need to have an item funded following the clinic.
