Wheelienet at Novita - Disability Awareness Program

Spoken by Program Coordinator, Michael:

My name is Michael Neroni and I'm delivering the Wheelienet program on behalf of Novita. It's a fun and educational look at life with a disability and disabled sport.

A general Wheelienet session we'll start off with a talk from me about disabilities and disabled sport and different types of wheelchairs. And then we'll get into wheelchairs and have a go at some different activities - relay races, basic basketball skills, a game of basketball.

Spoken by School Teacher, David:

It's just about giving kids exposure to a sport that's totally different. They really enjoy it, it works well. I think we've been doing it for maybe 10 or a dozen years. And each year, I get the feedback back from the kids and they just enjoy it because it's something totally different.

Spoken by Program Coordinator, Michael:

I've done groups right down to a kindy level, right through to corporate groups and everything in between - school groups, community groups, sporting clubs. They benefit from learning about disabilities. Sometimes it's a sporting focus that they're doing the session for, so for part of a PE class at school. It's something a little bit different to the using sports they might take part in.
