Program Summary

Let’s Chat provides early childhood educators with strategies and tools to support the inclusion and participation of all children. 

Run by a Novita speech pathologist, the Let’s Chat program focuses on embedding multimodal communication strategies - including key word signs and visual communication supports - into preschool activities and routines.

Let’s Chat includes 7 sessions over 11 hours, combining training and coaching support.

Program Breakdown

  1. Observation (2 hours) 
    In person visit or virtual meeting to observe preschool activities and routines and identify communication opportunities.

     

  2. Multimodal Communication Training (90 minutes)
    Learn about the importance of supporting multimodal communication and factors impacting communication development.

     

  3. Key Word Sign and Gesture Training (90 minutes)
    Learn over 60 key word signs and participate in practical activities to build sign fluency.

     

  4. Follow Up Coaching (90 minutes)
    In person or virtual ‘on the floor’ support to implement key word sign and gesture in preschool activities and routines.

     

  5. Visual Communication Supports Training (90 minutes)
    Learn how to use visual communication supports, such as preschool activity communication boards.

     

  6. Follow Up Coaching (90 minutes)
    In person or virtual ‘on the floor’ support to implement visual communication supports in preschool activities and routines.

     

  7. Final Review and Next Steps (90 minutes)
    Final in-person or virtual visit to review progress and develop a plan to maintain and grow communication support.
