Understanding Cerebral Palsy workshop

In order to work with and assist children living with CP, it is important to have a basic understanding and knowledge of it. This workshop will provide information on the different types of CP and the challenges these may present for the child. We will also work through strategies to support your work with a child living with CP.

This is a half-day workshop; if you are an Allied Health Professional, it will be a full day.

By attending the full day session (recommended for allied health professionals only) you will also learn about:

• Positioning for function, mobility and play. This will explore early handling and positioning of the young child with CP to support their postural needs and support development of functional skills. This will also include hands-on experience with use of positional and mobility equipment for older children with CP and an introduction to 24-hour postural management.
• Movement Disorder management. This will provide an overview of current management specifically of spasticity and dystonia of the lower and upper limbs, including discussion on assessment tools used, and management.

• Out of School Hours Care (OSHC) educators
• Allied Health Professionals wanting to learn more about Cerebral Palsy

• Enhance your knowledge and understanding of Cerebral Palsy.
• Provide you with interventions and strategies to support individuals with Cerebral Palsy to enhance their participation in their daily activities at home, school and within the community.

You can request a quote for a workshop, on-site at your school or childcare centre. This is often beneficial as more staff can be involved and also the training can be customised to the needs of your site and/or the children who attend your childcare centre or school.
