Novita’s Mighty River Run is back this November, bringing together passionate boaties, volunteers, sponsors and Novita supporters with one shared goal - to raise vital funds to support people living with disability.
What began as an idea shared by friends John Riddell, Jason ‘Snowy’ Carter and football legend the late Russell Ebert, the Mighty River Run has since grown into one of South Australia’s most loved community fundraising events.
Now entering its 20th year, the Mighty River Run will once again see crews - affectionately known as River Runners - take to the water for a five-day adventure starting in Moorook, heading to Renmark, then doubling back to Waikerie and finishing in Barmera.
Each crew sets an individual a fundraising target, with every dollar raised directly supporting Novita to provide essential services, equipment and opportunities for people living with disability.
For event organiser and Novita team member Matthew Robran, the event’s greatest strength is the connection it creates between fundraisers and the people supported by their generosity.
“For many people living with disability in regional communities, distance, travel time and fewer local service options can create additional barriers to accessing the support they need,” Matthew said.
“Through events like the Mighty River Run, Novita is able to raise awareness, strengthen connections and help ensure people living outside metropolitan areas can access services that support their goals and needs.”
Since its inception, the Mighty River Run community has raised more than $7 million.
