How Novita can help develop your child’s potential

For over 77 years, Novita Children’s Services has been one of the largest providers of quality services to children and their families living with disability. At Novita, we understand the importance of working in partnership with families and carers to ensure we meet the needs of the child and the family.

Our multi-disciplinary team of physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech pathologists and psychologists have extensive experience in providing high-quality therapy to children with disabilities and developmental needs. We offer case management and social work services to ensure that services are well coordinated and cater for a family’s individual situation.

Novita staff have extensive skills and experience in supporting a child’s transition into childcare, preschool, school and high school. We can support families with planning and relevant information required to assist with these transitions. We can work directly with schools to help them understand each child’s needs and to empower them with understanding and suggested strategies that may be required to fully support the child’s learning and development.

Novita offers an array of services for children with developmental needs and disability including:

  1. Allied health therapy services: physiotherapy, aquatic therapy, occupational therapy and speech pathology
  2. Psychology services: cognitive/learning assessment and recommendations; managing difficult behaviour; anxiety, emotional regulation and coping; grief, loss and adjustment
  3. Equipment prescription, training and support
  4. Case management

From professional assessments, our staff will recommend appropriate interventions for each child, based on the latest evidence and clinical experience. We will work with the child and the family to create an individual therapy plan designed to support that child in achieving their goals.

Our team-based approach means that our therapy staff work collaboratively to ensure services provided to each child are coordinated and effective.

Regional Services: provide therapy, equipment and support to children and their families within regional South Australia in areas such as Port Augusta, Whyalla, the Riverland, Mount Gambier and Broken Hill.

Novita designs services for a particular region in response to the needs of families and the local community.

Therefore, Novita services are provided in a variety of ways. Visits to a regional area generally take place up to four times per year (once per school term), depending on need, and may involve a day trip in some instances or last for two to three days in others.

Novita now provides a weekly service to the Whyalla area, every Thursday at OrthoEyre, 14 Forsyth St, Whyalla. Aquatic therapy, through the Whyalla Recreation Centre, can be negotiated if there are a number of families interested in scheduling blocks of aquatic therapy sessions. School sessions, including provision of training, coaching and group activities, can be negotiated.
