Let’s play!

Playing sport is a great way for kids and teens to get active, make friends, and be part of a team.
But it can be hard to know where to start, especially when your child lives with disability – there’s fear of the unknown, lack of confidence, getting the right equipment, and so much more to think about.
This is where our ConnectABILITY program can help.
ConnectABILITY supports kids and teens of all ages, with different types of disability, and all different needs, to get involved in sport.
We will work with you and your child to find out:
- what sport they want to play
- how they can get involved
- what support and equipment they might need
- what teams or clubs they can join.
They will also get the opportunity to be involved in special events, like the kids and teens who played at Adelaide Oval through our Adelaide Strikers partnership.
Harper Keneally was one of those kids.
Harper lives with cerebral palsy and loves playing cricket. Here’s what he told us about playing sport and being involved in ConnectABILITY.
What is your favourite sport?
Cricket!
Do you play in any sporting teams?
Yes, I play cricket and football at school.
You live with cerebral palsy, how has ConnectABILITY helped you play sport?
ConnectABILITY has helped me get my classification so I could compete in para SAPSASA. I’ve done surf lifesaving and also lots of cricket clinics which they have organised too.
Do you use any special equipment to play sport?
I wear strapping when I play sport to help get my hand in a good position, but when I am not playing sport I wear a WalkAide during the day and a leg splint at night.
What’s the best thing about being in a sports team?
Playing with my friends, and meeting new people.
What’s your sporting dream or goal?
To compete at the Paralympics in athletics.
All Novita kids and teens are eligible to register for ConnectABILITY. If you are not registered with Novita, please call us 1300 NOVITA (1300 668 482).
