Adelaide Strikers Charity Match

On Monday 16 January the Adelaide Strikers held their Novita Charity Match against the Melbourne Renegades as part of the Big Bash League.

The match raised funds and awareness to give all Aussie kids the opportunity to play sport through Novita’s ConnectABILITY program.

It was a fantastic opportunity for some of our kids and teens who took part in a pre-game cricket clinic on Adelaide Oval and made a Guard of Honour for the Strikers players before each inning in front of a huge crowd.

One of our Ambassadors for the Strikers partnership, Harper Keneally, was interviewed by Channel 7 presenter Amelia Mulcahy live on the big screen!

Harper spoke to Amelia about why he loves sport and what equipment and techniques he uses to play with his mates.

What is your favourite sport?

Cricket!

Do you play in any sporting teams?

Yes, I play cricket and football at school.

You live with cerebral palsy, how has ConnectABILITY helped you play sport?

ConnectABILITY has helped me get my classification so I could compete in para SAPSASA. I’ve done surf lifesaving and also lots of cricket clinics which they have organised too.

Do you use any special equipment to play sport?

I wear strapping when I play sport to help get my hand in a good position, but when I am not playing sport I wear a WalkAide during the day and a leg splint at night.

What’s the best thing about being in a sports team?
Playing with my friends, and meeting new people

Who’s your favourite Strikers player?
Kane Richardson!

What was it like being interviewed live in front of such a big crowd?

I was really nervous but excited at the same time.

What’s your sporting dream or goal?

To compete at the Paralympics in athletics.

Another one of our Novita kids (and die-hard cricket fan!), Liam Smith, was given the honour of making the ball delivery to the match umpires before the game.

You can check out all the action from the match in our Strikers Photo Gallery.
