Physical Rehabilitation Program

Novita’s Physical Rehabilitation Program specialises in therapy services for children and young people at times when an intensive therapy program is required to achieve their goals. This may be associated with certain medical and surgical interventions.

This therapy can assist children with movement disorders of their arms and/or legs, or difficulties with swallowing and mealtime management.

Medical Specialist Clinics

The Physical Rehabilitation Program manages the Medical Specialist  Clinics, which  are a joint initiative between Novita Children’s Services and the Rehabilitation Department at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Adelaide.

They are attended by doctors from the hospital and therapists from Novita, and are held at all of our Novita office locations.

The clinics involve a physiotherapist and an occupational therapist, who discuss with families their goals for their child, and undertake individualised assessments. They assist in empowering families to make the decisions around what interventions may aid the therapy in order to achieve these goals. Aids to achieving goals for the child can include:

  • serial casting
  • orthotic management
  • BoNT-A (Botulinum Toxin Type A) treatment
  • orthopaedic surgery
