Our Services

Novita’s professional and dedicated Christies Beach team offer a wide range of tailored therapy services, community programs, and assistive technology to support kids, young people, and adults living with disability to achieve their goals.

Transition to Work

Transition to Work is a program to support young people living with disability to gain employment. We’ll support you to gain work experience, learn a core set of skills, which can be applied to a wide range of different jobs and industries, and become a better communicator, all to reach your employment goals. There are 2023 places available now at Novita Hindmarsh and our new Christies Beach site.

Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy supports people living with disability with physical and life skills such as movement, vision, sensory processing, sleep and personal care, as well as the skills needed for school and work. Novita’s Occupational Therapists can also provide advice, prescription and training for the assistive technology and equipment that can support people living with disability to lead a fulfilling life.

Educators

Educators support kids and young people to develop important social and emotional skills, communication and speech, routines and positive behaviour skills that support learning and growth. Novita’s Educators help to coordinate services for clients and can support the transitions from primary school to high school, and from school to work.

Step Up Life Skills

Novita’s Step Up Life Skills program, is designed to support young people living with disability to actively engage in life. During the program, you’ll learn independent living skills to assist you in engaging in the world around you. Specifically, you will develop a core set of life skills including how to open and manage a bank account, safely catch public transport, maintain a healthy lifestyle, as well as personal presentation, and many other topics to support you in becoming more independent.

Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy supports people who have difficulty with their movement skills due to living with physical disability such as cerebral palsy or brain injury, intellectual disability, or developmental disability. Our Physiotherapists can tailor a range of therapies to support movement and pain management, as well as providing advice, prescription and training for mobility equipment such as wheelchairs and walking aids.

Assistive Technology

Assistive Technology (AT) and equipment can support people living with disability to achieve their goals at home, at school, in the workplace, and in the community. Novita can provide assessment and prescription for Assistive Technology, as well as helping with funding applications through various equipment funding schemes.

Community Programs

Novita’s Day Options is a friendly, fun and inclusive program for adults run by experienced and qualified Disability Support Workers. Individual goals, developmental needs and interests are taken into consideration when planning activities and outings so everyone gets the most out of Day Options. Activities may include – cooking, watching movies, arts and crafts and excursions out in the local community.

Speech Pathology

Speech Pathology supports people who have difficulty communicating as a result of living with developmental delay, brain injury, stroke, learning and intellectual disability, cerebral palsy and hearing loss. Our Speech Pathologists can support kids, young people and adults with a range of communication skills including speaking, listening, using the voice, reading, writing, stuttering, and understanding language. They can also support people who have difficulty swallowing and eating safely.

Developmental Educator

A Developmental Educator (DE) is an allied health professional who supports people of all ages living with disability. They teach important life skills, set goals, and ensure physical and emotional well-being. DEs assess your needs and create positive plans to support you in various ways, such as improving your senses, independence, social skills, and more. They focus on what's best for you, your loved ones, and the things that matter to you.

The new Christies Beach hub at 177 Beach Road, Christie Downs features vibrant therapy rooms and activity spaces which help our staff to design activities to meet the specific needs of our clients, including features such as specialised sensory equipment. There is a dedicated kitchen which will support our clients to develop independent living skills such as safe and healthy meal preparation. The extra space provided by the new hub will give us great potential to continue to grow and expand our services and supports.

Novita’s Christies Beach hub servicing clients and families at 177 Beach Road, Christie Downs, is just a short drive from the former Novita St Mary's hub. Depending on the services and supports you need, the Christies Beach team can also deliver our therapy services in the family home, at school, or at an appropriate location through our mobile services.

How we work

Novita works using the Life Needs Model of Service Delivery, which is a flexible approach focussing on community-based and specialised services that match your goals, whatever your stage of life. With you and your family at the centre of our thinking, we provide services across all areas of life, including:

  • your home – we work in partnership with families and significant others to support skill development, as well as home modifications, technology and equipment
  • education – working in partnership with school staff and providing access to technology and equipment, as well as training and support
  • community – liaising with health professionals and partnering with community groups to provide linked services, education and training.

Novita is one of South Australia’s largest community-based disability service organisations supporting people living with disability through a network of therapy hubs across the state and in Broken Hill, we have around 900 professional and dedicated staff supporting around 5,000 clients, as well as their families and carers.
